Issue # 25 (27 September 2013)

The Fall art season in New England is in full bloom; a cornucopia of major gallery and museum openings that take place across the region. Most exciting is Anselm Kiefer:
In a major new collaboration with the Hall Art Foundation,  a large and long-term exhibition of sculpture and paintings by Anselm Kiefer, MASS MoCA opens a 10,000 square-foot building at MASS MoCA specially re-purposed by the Hall Art Foundation and devoted to the art of Anselm Kiefer.
Do not miss the sensational Sol LeWitt monumental  wall drawing at Paula Cooper--it will be painted over October 12 or Yves Klein Blue pigmented floor at Dominique Levy Gallery as it will be swept up November 16.
John McCracken, the "zen master of minimalism" is at David Zwirner, Chelsea and Matthew Day Jackson's latest works are at Hauser and Wirth. Zhang Huang's Poppy Fields are blooming at Pace, Mexican artist while Damian Ortega's shadow alphabet is at Gladstone-- but catch it before the the lights turn off on October 26. While you're in the area, check out Ian Davenport's"Colorfall" at Paul Kasmin Gallery and do not miss Francois-Xavier Lalanne's installation "Sheep Station" at the gas station corner 24th at 10th Avenue.
Make your way from Edmund de Waal's (author of Hare with Amber Eyes) display of tiny white porcelain vases at Gagosian toPaola Pivi' psychedelic feathered bears at newly opened Galerie Perrotin on Madison Avenue. And finally, note that Olafur Eliasson's "Waterfall" is newly sited against the backdrop of a waterfall in Reading, Vermont at Hall Art Foundationan ironical play between art and nature, at one in radiant Autumn colors.

Stop by the Westport Arts Center Gallery to see our Annual Juried Members Exhibition, "Home Sweet Home," juried by Jennifer Gross, Chief Curator and Deputy Director of Curatorial Affairs at deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum. Sign up for Plein Air Painting, a Jazz concert, or come to an ArtCafe and hear "Home Sweet Home" artists speak about their work.

Happy looking and happy reading!
